Itinerary
The GR 4 carries on through Mediterranean holm-oak and oak tree woods, crossing the dried bed of a stream in the area of Vauservières. The walk leads you across vineyards, which substituted the cultivation of mulberries a long time ago. After Salavas, the route overlooks the Ardèche river and its opposite bank, which is intensively cultivated around the village of Les Mazas, and very different from the environments of Serre Mejol and Le Peyrerol, touched by this itinerary: the balcony track is really panoramic and it crosses steep calcareous beds covered in dry garrigue which descend towards the valley of Ardèche. The GR diverts to the south-west to plunge again into the woods and guide walkers through the net of the forest paths. There are various dolmen along this easy walk, or at a short distance. Just beyond the chapel, the route ascends to the ruins of Le Chastelas (276 m), a panoramic point over the village of Grospierres and its surrounding hamlets. You carry on along the canal which conveys water to the mill of the hamlet, which had been populated until the beginning of the XX century. Further on, the environment becomes rural up to the small village of Comps.
